Lipids are a group of organic compounds that contain the elements carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Lipids can either be fats, oils, or waxes. Lipids are oil at normal room temperature. Lipids are made up small chemical sub-units named of fatty acids and glycerol. In lipids there are always more than twice as many hydrogen atoms as there are oxygen. When lipids are made they all contain one glycerol molecule and three fatty acids. When three fatty acids and one glycerol combine together chemically to form a larger lipid molecule, three water molecules are created and released. This type type of reaction is called dehydration synthesis.external image lipid.giflipid.gif
