Mitosis

Mitosis is the process of cellular division for a Eukaryotic cell. Cells will divide for a number of reasons. Cells can only grow a to a limited size. Their surface area will only allow for a limited amount of nutrients to enter the cell, if the cell is too large it will not be able to get enough nutrition, or other needed materials (such as oxygen for respiration). So, in order for multicellular organisms to grow larger they grow more cells instead of larger ones. It is important to remember that the products of Mitosis (daughter cells) are identical to the parent cell.

The phases of Mitosis are:

Interphase

Prophase

Metaphase

Anaphase

Telophase

Cytokinesis
